Change In Leadership Announced By Dowling College

OAKDALE, NY – Dowling College President Robert J. Gaffney today announced that he would retire from that position, effective immediately. Gaffney had indicated recently that he would retire at the end of the 2010-2011 academic year.

The decision by Gaffney, who has served as college President since October 2006, was based on family and personal considerations. President Gaffney, who had previously served for twelve years as Suffolk County Executive and had been elected to four terms in the New York State Assembly, is largely credited with raising the profile of Dowling College during his tenure at the helm of the institution.

To fill the void created by Gaffney's departure, the College Board of Trustees has named Board Chairman Scott Rudolph Interim College President, while the recently initiated search for a permanent President continues.

Scott Rudolph is Chairman of the Board and CEO of NBTY, Inc. (Bohemia, NY) and will be the first Dowling College President to have attended the institution as an undergraduate. A member of the board for 17 years, Mr. Rudolph has been a longtime supporter of the institution. Additionally, he is a trustee at North Shore University Hospital and a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), an organization dedicated to the development of "better leadership through education and idea exchange."

In accepting the post of Interim President, Mr. Rudolph said, "I look forward to working with the dedicated faculty and staff at Dowling College as we work to provide our students with a quality education and a positive educational experience. I'd also like to express our appreciation to President Gaffney for his years of service to Dowling."
