Ann-Margaret J. Nastasi, Director
International Students
Support Services
The International Student Office at Dowling works
to help ease your transition to America by providing a variety of
services, including assistance finding work on campus, and explaining visa and
passport policies. It offers informative sessions regarding U.S.
Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) regulations. Staff
members also can coordinate private tutors for students who have
language difficulties and academic needs.
The International
Student Office organizes numerous trips, tours and special events to
acquaint international students with American life in general and
New York specifically. Tours have been arranged to Boston,
Washington, D.C., and elsewhere. These outings allow students to see
parts of the U.S. that they would not otherwise experience on their
own. American students also participate, which makes the entire
experience all the more culturally enriching.
At the
beginning of the academic term, a comprehensive orientation is
provided for all new international students to help them feel more
comfortable at Dowling, and adjust to life in the USA. Many Dowling
administrators join current students in the welcoming activities,
which include a campus tour, and trips to required destinations like
an area bank and Social Security Office.
The International
Student Club is instrumental in helping students integrate into the
Dowling community. Over the past few years the Club has hosted such
activities as pizza parties, World Unity Party, Friendship Parties,
Culture Day, Tax Workshop, movie nights and fundraisers for
international and local causes.
The entire Dowling community
is pleased that so many international students are here to enrich
us with their talents and culture.
