Internship Guidelines

Internship candidates are registered Dowling College students who have typically completed two years of liberal arts requirements and field-related coursework, providing them with the fundamental skills necessary to take on applied work in your organization. Students who participate in the program typically register for 3 academic credits upon placement and complete a minimum of 10-15 hours a week (depending on whether the experience is paid/non-paid) over an approximate 12 week period.

As a participating employer, we ask that you:

  1. Provide an offer letter stating the specific parameters of the internship.

  2. Serve as an accessible mentor and trainer. Aid the student in the application and development of skills relevant to his/her studies and future career goals.

  3. Support the student in the accomplishment of "Learning Objectives" - Interpersonal, Technical, Classroom to Work, and Career Exploration.

  4. Evaluate the student at the conclusion of the internship and provide feedback.
